About the play structures
The park is home to a playground with swings, climber and other play equipment. It also has a small paved surface with a basketball net at one end for “shooting hoops.” In winter, it has two skating rink areas flooded, thanks to the City’s Parks department. One rink is large enough for small hockey games. The other rink is for recreational skating and is a favourite for young children. In the hot days of summer, those same children can enjoy the park’s wading pool that is open several hours a day, staffed by a City employee.

All of these play facilities are well used. The Landscape Renewal Plan noted that additional funding or fundraising may be required if any major changes or new equipment are to be sought for the park, such as a splash pad or new playground equipment. In 2006, a large slide was removed from the park playground area similar to slides removed from other parks in the city. No replacement equipment was installed.
As of late 2006, McBurney Park had two sets of swings, a climber, a metal see-saw and a play structure with a fireman's pole and two short slides. Citing safety reasons, the City removed a separate slide in 2006. Many nerighbours would like to upgrade the playground equipment, but it is an expensive proposition.
